Father’s Day Gift To Braun

This guy right here is such a rockstar in our family and we definitely wanted to make sure he knew it on Father’s Day!

We started this day like we do many in the Thueson household: with a homemade breakfast. German pancakes were on the menu and these are always a huge hit because you can make them normal or gluten-free AND THEY STILL TASTE AMAZING! I’ve linked the recipe below and if you read towards the bottom you’ll see my notes!

And I don’t know what you do in your house but homemade cards are a BIG deal here. It’s something that is uniquely their own, that they create with their own hands. The kids were so excited to have him read them one-by-one and they were so funny! I love that my kids are all developing a sense of humor and they’re all so different!

And I happen to agree with Anisten, Braun does have the BEST HAIR haha! The other thing that makes birthdays and holidays easier where presents make an appearance is that Emery is old enough to wrap all the presents now! I’m really trying not to take too much advantage of the child-labor but it is sooo nice! haha

You may have seen my Instagram but the boys really look up to Braun and they want to look like him constantly. That’s why we had so much fun with the Frank & Buck ties – the boys were able to give those to Braun and then match him and it made for really cute Father’s Day pictures!

I gave him his own red Dyson blow-dryer (if you’ve followed me for any small amount of time you know that he uses mine as much, if not more than I do! Remember, I only wash my hair every 7-8 days so he gets way more mileage out of it. But it’s tough to share! So I got him his own! haha I also grabbed him one of the new Fitbit scales.

But the real present to end all presents was yet to come. I gathered the kids around Braun and we showed him this very special video we put together. This is definitely one of my favorite things we’ve ever done for Braun and I’m so excited to share it with you here:

Brittney Hanvey @brittneyhanvey came to our house for an afternoon and put together this awesome video! Braun absolutely loved it and I would recommend this to any of you looking for an awesome gift. It’s a great way to capture your kids at the ages they are now and preserve a little bit of what life is like. This is definitely one of the Father’s Day where we really hit it out of the park! And most importantly, Braun felt awesome and the kids loved spoiling him!

German Pancakes

Print Recipe

Ingredients

4 tablespoon butter (I prefer salted)

6 extra large eggs

1 1/4 C milk

1 cup GF flour (I use Pamela’s Baking Mix)

pinch of salt (not needed if using salted butter)

1/2 tsp cinnamon

Directions

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Put the butter in a 9×13 glass baking dish and place in the oven to heat the pan and melt the butter.

Whisk the eggs and the milk together. Whisk in the flour, salt and cinnamon until mixture is smooth and thickened slightly. It will have the consistency of a pourable pancake batter. (Honestly, I dump all my ingredients in a blender at once and let the blender mix it for me!)

Remove the hot pan from the oven and swirl the melted butter around the pan to evenly coat it.  Pour batter into the pan and return to the oven. Bake for 25-30 minutes, rotating the pan halfway through baking. The German pancake/Dutch Baby should be very puffed and very golden brown when you remove it from the oven.

Our favorite way to eat these is with a little peanut butter and syrup on top!

(When making this gluten free, it won’t puff up as much as a normal Puffy pancake but will taste just as delicious!)

To make dairy free, we use earth balance butter, almond milk & Pamelas Bread Mix as the flour replacement.

  1. I totally cried watching that video! I’m blaming pregnancy hormones. Can’t wait to see my husband be adored by his kids just like your family!
