Poor Emery. This girl has been having a little trouble getting up for school in the morning and out the door on time. It wouldn’t be such a big deal but her school is a 45 MINUTE DRIVE FROM OUR HOUSE!
Her excuse this morning? She was up until 11:30 pm trying to pick out an outfit. Yep.
And listen, I get it. I really do. Being a tweenager/teenager is tough. And feeling like you have the right clothes, with the right accessories, saying the right thing, laughing at the right moment, and doing all the things that a middle-school girl is supposed to be doing is exhausting!
Any other moms here thanking their lucky stars that we don’t have to relive this part of our lives? Yeah. Me too.
So my goal this year has been to help my girls find clothes that they feel good in, outfits that are easy to put together and are affordable, and clothing that is a representation of their style.
Because let’s be honest. The only thing that’s shorter than a style trend in middle school is the attention span of a goldfish.
So I partnered with Target to show you some of the clothing we picked out for Anisten this fall and the brands we love!
ALWAYS GRAB BASICS
Having basics like a white or black t-shirt is such a great wardrobe staple – especially for a tween. We love Target brand Art Class for this very reason! Basics are easily paired with more trendy pieces and depending on how fast your tween grows, can often be worn for a few years.
These t-shirts are perfect for layering under dresses or sweaters as it gets colder. They can also be dressed up or down and a boxier fit allows them to be worn longer.
INVEST IN PIECES THAT LAYER WELL
My girls love dresses and I do too because they’re great pieces that transition well from warm weather to cold. They can be worn alone with sandals or paired with booties in the fall. Your tween can throw on a jean jacket and some tall socks or thick tights making them perfect for dropping temperatures.
COMFORT IS EVERYTHING
I don’t think kids and adults differ much when it comes to comfortable clothing. I spent what felt like years looking for comfy pants for Dash and my girls are totally into sweats right now. Any type of clothing that easily goes from a classroom to outdoor play to bed is ok in their book!
We picked up some fun sweats and they come in 3 fun colors! But Anisten was also in search of some fun clothes that would allow her to play, make up dances, and keep her cool when temperatures go oddly high on warm fall days.

Anisten also grabbed a few things by All In Motion. It’s a fun brand that makes clothing that’s for moving, being active, and for comfort. And they carry everything from sweats and leggings to athletic apparel and winter gear!
Look for unique details
While we did pick up a lot of basics, we made sure to pick pieces that had unique details and made them stand out. My girls can’t get enough of tie-dye and I think it’s permeated all of our wardrobes at this point! More Than Magic is another fun line that is all about individuality and they make the sweats Anisten is wearing below.
This girl has so many ribbed tees that it’s nice to switch them up with a buttondown or other details that set pieces apart.
Don’t forget to check the boy’s section
We came home with this sweatshirt and all 3 of my other kids insisted we go and get one in their size. It’s details like this that elevates basic pieces like this! And this was from the boy’s section. But we will often look for oversized pieces like sweatshirts or t-shirts, especially since they’re trendy right now!
We definitely couldn’t pass up these t-shirts when we saw them in the boy’s section! And she’s been living in it non-stop with her oversized sweats.
We had so much fun shopping at Target and picking out clothing from Anisten’s favorite brands. And right now, you can shop her favorites plus grab clothing for 20% off.
