I get soooo many questions about how Braun styles his hair so he was a really good sport and sat down with me last week to show you step-by-step to achieve his perfect coif!
But first, one tip to get the perfect haircut because a lot has to do with the cut your man gets!
A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words
Give your barber a reference image whenever possible. A photo of the haircut you’re hoping for will take out the guesswork and the awkwardness. Take a look through Pinterest or Google for inspiration!
Outside of that, being able to describe the cut is key! Braun’s cut is a Comb-Over Fade and consists of a fade on the side and back but with longer hair on top. The hair is then “combed-over” to the side as you’ll see in the tutorial below. Two other variations on this cut are the ‘High & Tight’ and the ‘Undercut’.
The ‘High & Tight’ has extremely short sides and about an inch and a half on top. The fade of the High & Tight extends from the nape of the neck to the sideburns and is super low maintenance.
The Undercut is where the sides and back are disconnected from the hair on top. This means very short hair on the sides and back with little to no taper and much more length on top. The result is sharp angles, clean lines, and lots of volume. An Undercut cut can be swept, slicked, and styled in a variety of ways. Think James Dean!

How to get the perfect coif in 3 easy steps
Braun and I both use this hair dryer because it seriously beats all others. It is on the expensive end but for the work it does, the warranty, and how long it will run, it’s well worth the investment. They’ve managed to combine an ultra-powerful, directed airflow (like those fancy rapid hand-dryers) with a heat-protection sensor that stops the temperature ever reaching the point where your hair gets shredded.
(And a note for you ladies: It’s undoubtedly faster, quieter and easier to use, and I’ve never had such shiny, smooth hair from a DIY blowdry before. It also lasts for DAYS)
Step 1: Paste
Apply to wet hair for slightly higher hold. It’s also going to give you a bit more texture than a cream. Apply a small amount (think size of a nickel) to the palms of your hands and then run your hands through your hair until the product is fully absorbed.
Step 2: Texture Spray
The love child of hairspray, dry shampoo and sea salt spray, this hybrid product will add volume and staying power to your guys hair. Spray generously through hair (6-7 sprays)
Step 3: Blow Dry
The blow dryer and brush do all the work here. You want a hair dryer that has a directional air-flow nozzle so your hair isn’t blown all over the place. Second, a good dense brush will grab that short hair and allow you to pull it tight as you brush it back. The technique is equally as important and requires you to brush the section of hair forward from the roots until you have a good grip on the hair and then to pull back toward the crown while following the motion with the blowdryer.
Finish your hair with a light spritz of hairspray if you need the additional hold! Want to watch the entire process? Check out the video below:
