Wardrobe Must-Haves For Confusing Spring Weather

I’ve officially decided that March is going to be the star of 2020 for me. February and January were just a trial run.

It’s getting warmer, but not warm enough. It’s weird temperature-wise. And it’s that flux that has me feeling unsteady and constantly guessing!

Shorts today? Full-on sherpa?

Checking the weather in the morning has turned into a math problem — what to wear when the mercury is starting out the day with a downright wintry 38, but will be 65 by lunchtime? And that’s not taking into consideration the high winds or cold snap that’s sure to come. Because come on, I live in Utah, and the weather just can’t seem to make up its mind.

Insert eye-roll here.

But I’ve partnered with Walmart to help so you’re not left staring at your closet helplessly in the morning and wondering which of your go-tos will keep you warm and cool at the same time. Because there’s nothing I love like a fashion challenge, I’m showing you my favorites for this temperature-challenging season.

And because I know that you want to save your big bucks for crucial spring and summer purchases (bathing suits, new sandals, actual vacation), I made sure that everything is under $40.

PAJAMA SET

Let’s Talk Lounge Wear

When in doubt, just stay in pajamas. ALL. DAY. LONG.

But they can’t be your run-of-the-mill pajamas. They need to be day-appropriate pajamas. Pajamas you can get caught running your kids to school in. Pajamas that make people look twice and think, “Are those pajamas? Nah.”

You know, cute pajamas. And they must be comfortable. They will keep you warm, but not too warm. And you can keep spring in mind with fun colors and on-trend patterns!

Dresses That Do Double Duty

The next wardrobe staple you definitely need are dresses. Like pajamas, these are something you are going to be comfortable in all day. You can wear them with tights and/or tall boots when temperatures drop. And then switch them up by wearing a bootie or sandal when temperatures are warmer. Plus, they could not be more my speed this season: florals, animal prints, and tie-dye!

Comfy, Cozy Cardigans

It’s definitely gotten too warm for your heavier cashmere blends and chunky cable knits, but that doesn’t mean you can waltz out of the house in just a t-shirt. No, you need the wardrobe chameleon – the cardigan. It’s the perfect in-between piece that can be layered with a heavier coat when temps drop. And it can be worn with a simple t-shirt when temps start to climb into the 60s.

LOUNGE PANTS | TOP

When In Doubt…

Go for the pieces that can do double duty like cardigans, dresses, and pants. Pants are the most versatile. And the next big non–skinny jean trend is here, and it couldn’t be chicer. While skinny jeans will truly never die, nor do I want them to, moving to the top of my list is high-rise wide-leg denim.

But if you aren’t a fan of the 70s and don’t dig a wide-leg, there are plenty of denim options that don’t break the bank that will carry you all the way through to summer!

Your style is so cute, and I know you aren’t plus size, but it would be nice to see some size-inclusive items (I don’t mean XL, I mean 2XL-5XL).
