Adventure has looked so different this year but one thing that has been consistent has been that we’ve been doing it as a family! And because travel restrictions have changed the way we normally do things, I can’t say I’m dying to go back!
This year has forced us to get outside, explore our own backyard, take risks, and we’ve also invested time and money into new experiences! We’ve biked southern Utah, explored new-to-us hikes and areas around us, kayaked any body of water we could find, tubed lazy rivers, ditched the phones and spent time in nature, and spent time getting to know one another.
I can honestly say it’s been one of the best years we’ve ever spent as a family. And instead of buying amusement park food and toys my kids will never play with again, we’ve instead purchased equipment that will last us a lifetime to support our new hobbies.

And so I wanted to introduce you to the newest member of the Thueson Adventure Clan- our new Sprinter! Braun is so stinking happy about this van! Not only will it haul all 6 of us around with room to spare, but we can easily bring paddleboards, inner tubes for tubing, haul our 4×4, camp, and do so much more as a family while being socially conscious and keeping our distance from others!
And that’s our plan this holiday season! We’re packing it full of our favorite things, bringing our warm weather gear, and taking advantage of dropping temps and new snow.

Anytime we pack up we make sure we bring plenty of layers (it is Utah, after all, and you never know when you’re going to have a 75-and-sunny ski day) and I just picked up some new coats for the boys as well as boots. If you haven’t tried Bogs for your littles, you’re making putting on snow gear way too hard for them and you! Bogs have handles right up at the top of the boot that makes it so your kids can get their gear on with little to no help! Plus, they’re comfy and will keep their feet toasty warm as they play outside.

We also pack light and make sure we aren’t bringing extras. We got these black hole bags by Patagonia from Backcountry earlier this year and they’ve been awesome to travel with. They come in multiple sizes and colors so each family member has their own that’s identifiable and that they’re responsible for. I love that my kids are at the age where they can handle the responsibility of getting 75%+ of their stuff packed and keep track of their bags. You could easily pack for a multiple-week trip or a weekend trip with these bags.

And I think I showed this to you guys last time but we rarely leave home without this bad boy! It’s a backpack cooler that can keep all of our food and drinks cool while we play and is way less cumbersome than a traditional cooler! We love Yeti and have a few of their coolers!

Can you tell how excited these guys are about their boots? They have not taken them off. When we told them we were running away this week for Thanksgiving, they started whooping and hollering like nothing else. I think they enjoy the time together and outdoors as much as, if not more than, any of us do because it has been incredibly special!
